In progress sneak peaks

Did a little study because I found some make up sponges and powdered graphite laying around. I’ve never gotten to try that technique before but I really enjoyed it. Reminds me of that one adventure time episode.

The backside

Nordic churches are epic. These used to be covered with tar for waterproofing. Gotta love scraps of your heritage.

Detail. You’ll just have to imagine the way the gold leaf actually looks.

“Fool’s Gold” 30”x23” Graphite, colored pencil, acrylic and gold leaf on the always delicious rives bfk. Not quite sure if this one is finished but I’m comfortable with where it’s at.

“Cycles” 19”x25” Another piece in the memento mori series for my bfa show. Drapery is a lot of fun.

Framing day!

“Strands of Time” 20”x25.5” Colored pencil on canson. For my bfa show coming up in May.

“Vanitas”. Colored pencil on Canson. Something like 19”x 25”. Pardon the tape, this one still has some touch ups to go so it’s on my studio wall. Also I tried using bestine rubber cement thinner to dissolve some of the background however it left this high gloss coating I can’t seem to get rid of. Some colored pencil technique book said to use that over mineral spirits. If anyone has any advice I’d be super grateful. I tried spray fix and going over with a very sharp pencil but to no avail.

Today I spent 7 hours setting up and being critiqued. Straight. At least it went mostly well and the criticism was valid. Here’s the result. More development in the memento mori series.
